ESTATE

Acquired by Stephan von Neipperg in late 1998, Château d’Aiguilhe is one of the finest and most beautiful vineyards in the Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. Located back from the river, the château’s dignified ruins bear witness to a long and turbulent history.
Today, the estate covers 140 hectares, including 90 planted with vines. The vines grow exclusively on the plateau, where they benefit from south-facing sun exposure and excellent natural drainage.


VARIETALS

Composition: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc
Limited yields from vineyards with an average age of 40 years


VINIFICATION

Winemaking: Malolactic fermentation and ageing in new oak barrels on fine lees. fining and filtering as necessary, depending on the vintage.
Vatted for 30 days and aged in 30% new oak barrels


TASTING NOTES

Eye: Nice ruby, open and quite seductive
Nose: bundles of juicy mulberry and strawberry fruit with a smear of vanilla filling in any gaps
Mouth: The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a touch of citric fruit lending tension, impressive depth with a nicely poised, yet elegant finish”
