Ferraton Père & Fils is one of the Northern Rhône’s most respected estates, owned by Chapoutier but run with full autonomy. Les Eygats is their flagship single-parcel Cornas, sourced from a dramatic high-altitude lieu-dit above the village.
100% Syrah. The lieu-dit sits at 300m altitude above the village of Cornas, on steep slopes of very decomposed granite (gore), south-east facing with strong winds — a late-ripening site of great character. Grapes are destemmed and macerated in concrete vats for approximately 4 weeks, with extraction by pumping over and punching down. Aged for 12 to 14 months in oak barrels with around 10% new oak.
Tasting Notes
Eye: Intense, deep ruby with purple reflections.
Nose: Very pure and deep, with aromas of ripe raspberry and blackcurrant. With the warmth of the 2018 vintage, expect additional notes of dark plum, crushed stone, graphite and a hint of smoked meat.
Palate: Very pure, very mineral, with great depth. Notes of small very ripe berries, spices and sour cherry. Very long and persistent. The 2018 vintage adds extra weight, density and structure, demanding patience in the cellar.
Cellaring
A powerful, structured expression of Les Eygats that rewards patience. Best opened from 2026 onwards.
Drink window: 2026–2038
Food Pairing
Outstanding with roasted lamb shoulder, venison, wild boar, duck with black cherry sauce, or a slow-cooked daube with herbs de Provence. Also superb with aged Comté or Pélardon.
Serving: Decant 2 hours minimum. Best at 16–17°C.
