Domaine Roulot Meursault 2017

The Roulot family has been in Meursault since 1798, and the domaine itself dates to 1830 — but its legend was built by Guy Roulot, one of the first in Burgundy to bottle village lieux-dits separately, a practice now standard across the Côte. Since 1989 the estate has been led by his son Jean-Marc Roulot, trained actor turned benchmark winemaker (you may recognise him from the film Back to Burgundy, partly shot at the domaine). Farmed organically since 2000 and certified since 2013, Roulot’s style is the definition of precision Meursault: taut, saline, energetic whites that have made the domaine one of the most sought-after names in white Burgundy.

100% Chardonnay, blended from several village parcels — and a lesson in why “villages” undersells Roulot: the domaine’s signature tension and salinity are all here. 2017 was a vintage of purity and precision in white Burgundy, delicate and airy in the style of the fine 2011s, and Roulot’s collection that year was widely hailed as flirting with perfection.

Tasting note — Sun-kissed aromas of Asian pear, white flowers and honeycomb, with classic Meursault notes of hazelnut, apple, citrus and acacia blossom. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and elegantly fleshy, with a beguiling vibrancy and fine mid-palate density — the most open and gourmand wine in the Roulot range. At nearly a decade old, it is drinking beautifully now.
