Domaine Roulot Meursault 2018

The Roulot family has been in Meursault since 1798, and the domaine itself dates to 1830 — but its legend was built by Guy Roulot, one of the first in Burgundy to bottle village lieux-dits separately, a practice now standard across the Côte. Since 1989 the estate has been led by his son Jean-Marc Roulot, trained actor turned benchmark winemaker (you may recognise him from the film Back to Burgundy, partly shot at the domaine). Farmed organically since 2000 and certified since 2013, Roulot’s style is the definition of precision Meursault: taut, saline, energetic whites that have made the domaine one of the most sought-after names in white Burgundy.

100% Chardonnay, blended from several village parcels — and a lesson in why “villages” undersells Roulot: this wine punches well above its appellation. 2018 was a warm, generous vintage in white Burgundy, giving rich, slightly voluptuous wines — but where healthy yields brought focus and refinement, and Roulot’s naturally taut style kept everything in check.

Tasting note — Ripe but fresh orchard fruit on the nose with hazelnut and a subtle tropical hint, very pure. The palate shows all the Roulot signatures: laser-like focus, kinetic energy and incredible finesse, with sleek, intense, almost racy medium-bodied flavours of white orchard fruit and citrus, impressive density coating the mid-palate, and a long, smooth finish. Drinking beautifully now.
