Clos De Sommere Bourgogne Pinot Noir Les Forets 2023 – Magnum

Clos de Somméré is one of Burgundy’s most compelling new addresses — born from the union of two cousins, Régis and Sylvain, and the Santé family, vignerons in La Roche-Vineuse since 1848. From 2023, a new chapter began: the two cousins took the reins with a clear ambition — to craft wines that honour five generations of accumulated terroir knowledge while bringing a fresh, rigorous and passionate approach to the cellar.

The domaine spans 10 hectares on the clay-limestone slopes of La Roche-Vineuse, in the heart of the Mâconnais — a village sitting between Mâcon and Cluny whose elevated hillside terroirs are increasingly recognised as among the most exciting in southern Burgundy. Régis and Sylvain farm with respect for the land, working with indigenous yeasts and keeping interventions in the cellar to a minimum.

Terroir & Vinification

Les Forêts is sourced from a single lieu-dit on the clay-limestone hillsides of La Roche-Vineuse, at an elevation that preserves natural freshness even in warm vintages. The 2023 growing season was generous and sun-drenched across Burgundy, producing ripe, expressive fruit without sacrificing the freshness that defines wines from this cooler, elevated corner of the Mâconnais.

Harvest is carried out by hand. Vinification is conducted entirely at the domaine in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with indigenous yeasts and gentle extraction to preserve the natural fruit character. The wine is aged on fine lees to build texture, then bottled with minimal filtration.

Tasting Notes

Eye: Bright, luminous ruby with violet hints — fresh and inviting.

Nose: Expressive and immediately charming, with red cherry, wild strawberry and a touch of raspberry, lifted by a delicate floral note and a hint of forest undergrowth — an echo of the lieu-dit’s name.

Palate: Light to medium-bodied, fluid and fresh, with supple, well-integrated tannins and a juicy, fruit-driven mid-palate. Good natural acidity provides lift and definition, leading to a clean, mineral finish with pleasing length. A wine of genuine charm and digestibility.

Food Pairing

Versatile and approachable — ideal with charcuterie, roast chicken, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto or a simple cheese board. On the Asian table, a natural partner for Cantonese roast meat, light stir-fries or steamed dishes with soy-based sauces.
