Coquard Loison Fleurot Vosne-Romanee 2020 – Magnum

Domaine Coquard Loison Fleurot is located in Flagey-Échezeaux in the Côte de Nuits — a discreet yet highly sought-after family estate. For several generations, the family has cultivated a 9-hectare vineyard spread across prestigious appellations including Échezeaux, Grands-Échezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Clos de Vougeot, and Charmes-Chambertin.

The domaine experienced a true renaissance in the 2010s with the arrival of the talented winemaker Thomas Colladot. Under his direction, the wines have gained in precision, elegance and depth, guided by a minimally interventionist philosophy — manual harvesting, gentle vinification, and carefully managed barrel ageing to express the identity of each terroir.

Terroir & Vinification

The 2020 village cuvée is a blend of two lieux-dits: La Violette, vinified with 40% whole bunches, and Quartier de Nuits, with no stems. Fermentation relies on ambient yeasts, with late malolactic conversion and gentle extraction to prioritise clarity, balance and freshness.

Tasting Notes

Eye: Deep, luminous ruby with violet glints — the hallmark of a fine 2020 Côte de Nuits.

Nose: Fine delineation and focus on the nose, very pure and with the appellation’s trademark floral lift. Coulis-like aromas of plum, wild black cherry, Asian-style tea and sandalwood.

Palate: Rich, even opulent flavours that retain ample punch on the surprisingly powerful, concentrated and impressively long finish, if youthfully austere. Medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity — silky smooth.

Food Pairing

A natural match for Burgundian classics — duck breast with cherry jus, pigeon, veal sweetbreads, aged Époisses or Comté. Also superb alongside Cantonese roast duck or Peking duck for the Asian table.
